✨ 2 (Not So Obvious) Reasons Your Digital Offer is Asleep Back at the House Instead of Driving All Night to Vegas
Hi there, Solopreneur!
Happy Wednesday, and welcome to issue #28 of Solopreneur Doorway, a weekly newsletter that helps you turn your skills into solutions people buy. I’m glad you’re here. Was this email forwarded to you? Get yours here.
This week’s issue is a 3.0-minute read.
✨ 2 (Not So Obvious) Reasons Your Digital Offer is Asleep Back at the House Instead of Driving All Night to Vegas
📽 In the movie, Swingers, Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau jump in the car late one night and start driving to Vegas.
Their enthusiastic cries of “Vegas!!” soon turn quiet as the boys realize it’s a long drive across the dessert.
That scene reminds me of the solopreneur journey.
You have an idea, launch a business, and then start driving.
After the adrenaline wears off, you slowly run out of energy and wonder if you made the right offer.
Should you have paid closer attention to these two key themes?
Preparation
Rescue
The key to turning your skills into solutions people buy is to put these two concepts at the core of your business model, along with every digital product or service you offer.
Here’s a current example.
💵 I have a strong financial background, and each year, I pay accountants to complete and file my taxes.
Could I do it on my own? Sure.
I don’t. No way.
My accounting team has the systems and expertise to prepare and rescue me during the year (and, especially, in tax season).
They prepare me in three ways:
They keep me in the loop on important changes in the tax code
They remind me of essential dates for tax and business filings
They make sure my financials and tax filings comply with all the rules for my business entity
In addition, my professional accounting team can rescue me if any of these issues occur:
What if NY State decides to implement a new policy for collecting and submitting sales tax for sales of digital products?
What if the depreciation guidelines for electronic equipment change?
What if new federal tax rules change the way solopreneurs pay themselves?
I could subscribe to a tax newsletter. I could disappear for weeks down a YouTube tax rabbit hole.
I could read the IRS website every day.
Doing each of those would make me wicked smart about taxes. They would also be a colossal waste of my time.
I pay my sharp accounting team because they keep me ahead of any tax curves and provide essential advice on all tax matters.
They consistently prepare and rescue me.
Your digital product and service have to prepare and/or rescue your customers in such a way that they see you as paramount to their survival and future success.
🛠 How Do You Add Prepare and Rescue to Your Solopreneur Model?
The fastest way to ensure your offer helps prepare and rescue your clients is to draw up a timeline for their transition.
Start with position A: what information, resources, and tools will they need to start their journey? Can you provide them in a simple and powerful way?
Move to position B: how can you keep them safe and make sure they continue to improve and prosper? Do you know what industry trends they should adopt or avoid to stay relevant and profitable?
Finish on position C: how will you ensure your offer remains attractive each year so that they stay with you for more than 1 quick trip?
Whether you offer SEO, branding, coaching, or copywriting, it’s imperative that your clients feel you are essential to their success.
Prepare them to start their journey, and rescue them along the way if things go wrong.
They will lean on you more and more, and they’ll tell their friends to work with you.
Stay curious and keep opening doors.
